Cambridge SoundWorks Introduces New System For Upgrading TV-Sound

23-Dec-99

Cambridge SoundWorks, recognized internationally for its innovative loudspeaker systems for high fidelity, home theatre, and desktop-multimedia systems, has introduced a unique new system that adds high quality stereo or surround sound to any TV. The companyís TVWorks 250 with Immersion virtual surround processing is an elegant, simple, one-box solution that dramatically improves the limited range and mediocre sound from many TVsí built-in speaker systems. ""Cambridge SoundWorks has been an important catalyst in the home-theater revolutionís phenomenal growth,"" says CSWís General Manager, Rob Mainiero. ""Weíre fully committed to the research and development that is maintaining our prominence in the field. While thereís no substitute for a powerful surround system with a big-screen image, there are untold millions of TVs in use in rooms, lifestyles, and budgets for which such a surround-sound system is not appropriate. These scenarios represent a tremendous market. Hence our new TVWorks 250."" TVWorks 250 delivers dramatically better stereo audio from all television programming, whether broadcast or cable TV, videocassettes, or DVDs, while demanding only the most minimal setup and modest space requirements. The CSW design is a single-box, ""plugíníplay"" solution just 17 inches wide and sized for placement atop typical 19"" to 36"" televisions, and it requires just a single power cord and a single audio cord to be connected. Yet TVWorks 250 incorporates a pair of surprisingly robust and room-filling five-inch speakers, each operating in an acoustically discrete vented sub-enclosure and each driven by its own powerful, custom-engineered amplifier channel. Consequently, these carefully engineered transducers produce impressive bass weight and depth. They also deliver smooth, accurate midrange that dramatically enhances intelligibility over built-in TV speakers, and extended treble that reveals a world of detail and spaciousness that has previously gone unnoticed. While it is a simple, two-channel stereo system, TVWorks 250ís also includes a unique, user-selectable Immersion virtual surround processing mode that invokes enlarged stereo imaging for an audible improvement in acoustic space, reaching far beyond the actual width of the system itself. The new CSW TVWorks 250 system is magnetically shielded to eliminate image distortion on direct-view televisions and it includes dual-RCA inputs for one-step connection to virtually any TV. The TVWorks 250ís volume control adjusts initial level, while the TVís remote controls loudness from day to day thereafter. The TVWorks 250 even incorporates a valuable expansion option in the form of a single, minijack Sub Out connection. This permits the addition of any powered subwoofer for an even more powerful and extended bass. TVWorks 250 is solidly constructed in a wood-composite case design, and is finished in a sleek, durable black with a black-cloth grille that complements the design of most televisions. Pricing And Availability The Cambridge SoundWorks TVWorks 250 is now available at the exceptional price of US$149 through Cambridge SoundWorksí 26 retail showrooms and on the internet at www.hifi.com.
