Hollywood,
June 9, 2003. Warner Home Video and the American
Cinematheque rolled out the red carpet for a
gala party celebrating "The

1983 epic about the Project Mercury space program.
Celebrating the June 10 release of Warner's
Two-Disc Special Edition DVD, the film, based on Tom Wolfe's
book, was screened at the Egyptian Theatre to a delighted,
sold-out crowd. In attendance were several cast and crew members
including writer/director Philip Kaufman, producer Robert Chartoff,
cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, and stars Ed Harris, Barbara
Hershey, Lance Henriksen, Veronica Cartwright, Kathy Baker,
Pamela Reed, Harry Shearer, and others. Also in attendance
were honored guests General Chuck Yeager and Col. L. Gordon
Cooper Jr.
Following the screening the Cinematheque's
Dennis Bartok led a Q&A session/reunion which included
lively reminisces from many who worked on the film.
