Built to the same standards as ARCAM's top-of-the-line machines, and benefiting from many of the same proprietary design features, the DV78 is said to be the first true high-end DVD player to crack the $1,000 barrier.Like ARCAM's award-winning DV27A, DV-88 Plus, and DV89, the DV78 employs advanced digital clocking techniques, Zoran's VADDIS 5 processor, 32-bit Zoran audio DSP, Wolfson dual-differential 24-bit/192 kHz DACs with Delta-Sigma modulation, and Analog Devices 11-bit video DACs.Maintaining high-quality standards in a product priced 40 percent lower than their previous entry-level player required ARCAM to combine engineering solutions with the company's production expertise and purchasing power. Unlike the modular printed circuit boards of ARCAM's more expensive players, the DV78 is built on a single PCB to maximize production and inventory efficiency. While this single-board construction is claimed to have no impact on performance, it prevents the DV78 from accepting the DVD-Audio board developed for the DV27A, DV-88 Plus, and DV89. The DV78 employs one Wolfson dual-differential, 24-bit/192 kHz DAC per channel (a similar architecture is used in ARCAM's new CD73 CD player). Although the DV27A, DV-88 Plus and DV89 employ two of these DACs per channel, the DV78 still is claimed to offer stereo performance that rivals the best standalone CD players.As with all models in ARCAM's DiVA (Digitally integrated Video and Audio) product range, the DV78's chassis is constructed of pure aluminum for control of stray currents, and features Acousteelô, a three-layer laminate that utilizes ""constrained layer damping"" technology to virtually eliminate chassis resonance for improved fidelity and stability.Available in black or silver finish, the ARCAM DiVA DV78 is currently shipping at an MSRP of $999.
