Runco Introduces Latest In Video Processing

12-Sep-00

Runco International introduces the Virtual High Definitionô Ultra Processor Series. The VHDô-4404 Ultra, 4403 Ultra, and 4402 Ultra were designed and engineered with compatibility in mind, combining 10-bit video decoding and unprecedented aspect-ratio flexibility. ""In this transitional period of video display technology, we needed a video processor that could provide exceptional image quality on any type of display, including CRT, DLP, LCD and plasma displays, without compromise,"" says Mike Woods, Runcoís Technical Director. ""These new processors have the ability to provide the best scan rate options for various levels of CRT projectors, as well as match the native resolution of most fixed-pixel displays so the display itself does not have to rescale the image. In addition, the aspect-ratio control feature enables projectors such as DLPs, which were designed for 4:3 screens, to be used on a 16:9 screen, and still create three geometrically-correct aspect ratios. The entire line of VHD processors/controllers are based on VIVIXô technology, Runcoís sophisticated video scaling, a technique that goes beyond conventional line-doubling with proprietary digital signal processing (DSP). Video scaling analyzes the incoming signalís image content in three ""dimensions"" - vertical, horizontal and time. Runco is currently in negotiations for licensing its VIVIX(tm) technology. The VHD units utilize VIVIX technology to permit viewers to select the mode best suited to the program, or to personal preference, while optimizing the video signal to the systemís display. Each of the VHD processors have a variety of CRT and ""fixed-pixel"" standard outputs - for example, the VHD-4402 Ultra includes 480p, 540p and 600p outputs for CRT projectors as well as an 800 x 600 VESA standard output for fixed pixel devices. The VHD-4403 Ultra adds to the 4402ís outputs with additional 720p and 768p outputs for CRTs, and for fixed pixel displays, 1024x 768 and 1364 x 768 outputs are provided. The VHD-4404 Ultra includes all the scan rate and resolution outputs as the 4402 and 4403, and add 840p, 960 and 1080p outputs for CRTs, as well as 1280 x 768, 1280 x 1024 and 1364 x 1024 for fixed-pixel displays. The VHD-4402, 4403 and 4404 Ultra all incorporate inverse telecine (3/2 pulldown) compensation for optimized motion accuracy. Each model also has a built-in time base corrector. Another useful feature on this line of processors is the dual masking/drop screen control for projectors that have 16:9/4:3 masking and a projector control, provided by two 12-volt outputs to control the screen relays. All VHD Ultra processors are equipped with input and output options. Incoming video is accepted in composite (RCA jack), S-Video, and component (for DVD sources). The VHD 4402, 4403 and 4404 also include a RGB/component ""pass-through"" input that permits DTV or computer signals to pass unprocessed to the display. All model are now shipping. Manufacturerís suggested retail prices: VHD-4402 Ultra, $7,995 VHD-4403 Ultra, $14,995 VHD-4404 Ultra, $18,995 For more information on Runco International visit them on the Web at www.runco.com.
