The two examples I pictured in Parts 1 and 2 are not what you expected when jumping into the C.I. profession, I suppose. Like it or not, this is the trend set by TV manufacturers, selling always larger screens at a cheaper price. And the margin is ridiculous.
Now, think carefully of the last sentence in Part 2: "That's only a TV after all"
The reality is, there are 3 markets: The TV room, the Private Cinema room and the Integrated Home Cinema room. As a Custom Installer, only the last two can be rewarding.
Let's look back to the last century, in the nineties, when the concept of Home Cinema was emerging. At the time, it was clear that dedicated Cinema rooms were rather unusual. Many consumers wanted a Home Cinema in their Living-room. Despite integration techniques being only at the beginning, this is where the Home Cinema market blossomed.
OK, people want a TV in their Living-Room anyway, Watching the news or the weather report on a >3 m wide screen can be awkward.
How about this?
Yes, there is a TV. A retractable projection screen, Acoustically Transparent, drops in front of it. The 3 front loudspeakers are at the correct location for a full-scale soundscape. This is the basis of a really cool Home Cinema in a Living-Room.
And it is worth the effort, the budget and the pride to have a satisfied client.
Now, there are some pitfalls....
