HBO Max, the long-awaited subscription streaming video platform from WarnerMedia Entertainment, finally has a launch date: May 27.
The $14.95 monthly service will bow with more than 10,000 hours of content from Warner Bros., CNN and Turner. It is believed that WarnerMedia will fold HBO Go and HBO Now (the latter including more than five million subs) into Max after launch.
That’s because HBO Now subs currently billed through HBO and not a third party platform such as Roku, Google Play or The App Store, will have free access to Max. HBO pay-TV subs through online TV service AT&T TV will be upgraded to Max. Finally, Max also has a distribution promotion with Charter Communications.
To help market Max through the coronavirus pandemic, HBO has offered through April 30 more than 500 hours of free content access to numerous domestic distributors.
