Interesting Times-Part 4

February 28, 2025

Let's get started!

Referring to the sketch drawing of Episode 3, You'll need a TV. Well not ANY TV!

Today, most large screen TVs are designed with a sleek appearance, an ultra-thin bezel and a GLOSSY surface. This is because TV marketing teams want their products to be decorative objects. It all make sense , considering the space they occupy in the décor.

Now, look at the TV when it's off.

Do you see your own picture in it? Do you see the rear of the room?

Yes, it's nearly a mirror. And this reflected image is interfering with the normal image the TV is generating. Fair enough, consumers are now used to it...
But if you drop down a projection screen in front of what is nearly a mirror, you're asking for trouble.

Agreed, there needs to be a black backing layer behind the projection screen surface to get a good contrast. But this is not sufficient if you have a glossy TV behind. So, my first advice is to go for a matte TV screen or a professional monitor (most are glare-free).
