2-Feb-99

In recognition of its leading - edge plasma video display technology, Marantz America has announced its PD-4280 Plasma Monitor which has received a prestigious Innovations í99 Design and Engineering Award from the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA). The high-resolution Marantz PD-4280 is a 42-inch widescreen (16:9) television monitor which uses flat panel plasma technology to produce a display only 31/2 inches deep. The PD-4280 is DTV ñready, compatible with NTSC, PAL and SECAM formats, and is capable of displaying a line doubled image form an NTSC source or progressive scan image from a computer, DTV converter, or DVD-Video player. Its ultra-thin depth allows installation options never before possible, such as hanging on a wall or placement where conventional TVs cannot be accommodated. High-Resolution Picture Quality The PD-4280ís plasma technology produces an image in an entirely different manner than conventional CRT-based monitors, using electrodes and digital microprocessors to selectively illuminate gas-field cells, or pixels, which contain red, green or blue phosphors that produce an image. This process produces a bright sharp display with 24-bit color accuracy - 256 levels, analog RGB for resolution of 16,770,00 colors. Because plasma TV does not use electron beams, as conventional CRT displays do, the PD-4280is impervious to magnetic fields, allowing placement in close proximity to any type of loudspeaker or electronics with no possibility of image distortion. The PD-4280, has a native resolution capability of 853 x 480 pixels of multiscan capability up to 48kHz, allowing it to display SVGA images from a computer. The PD-4280 will also scale to 640 x 480 resolution when required. The PD-4280 can operate in either progressive scan or line-doubled mode depending on the signal source, displaying a progressive scan image from a computer, a 480p DTV set-top converter or a DVD-Video player or align-doubled image from any NTSC source. Universal Display Capability The PD-4280 includes composite, S-Video and component video inputs for total connection flexibility and the best possible image quality from DVD, satellite broadcast and other high-resolution video sources. The PD-4280 is also Windows 95 Plug and Play compatible and includes an RGB input for direct connection to a computer or WEB TV browser, giving presentations, computer games and Internet surfing incredible big-screen impact. For maximum viewing flexibility, the PD-4280 provides four aspect ratio modes- Normal, Wide, Full and Stadium. All key functions as well as video and audio adjustments are easily accessible via the PD-4280ís advance don ñscreen menu, which is accessed using the supplied Marantz RC2000 Mk II Programmable Learning Remote Control. The RC2000 Mk II is pre-programmed to operate all functions of the PD-4280, and can learn the codes of every component in an A/V system for total system control. The Marantz PD-4280 measures a 41 3/8 x 3 1/2 (without stand; 4 3/8 x 28 3/4"" x 4 1í4"" with supplied stand) and carries a suggested retail price of $13,999.00.
