WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
Independence Day is a thrilling rush of excitement for all audiences. The obliteration of the human race by 36 alien space ships hovering over the Earth’s major cities, is just a matter of time… unless a successful combat can be mounted.
LaserDisc Picture:
The THX®-quality assured picture is framed at 2.32:1 and exhibits excellent color fidelity with rich and warm colors, natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. Contrast is superb as is shadow detail. Images are consistently sharp and detailed, and while the slightest noise is apparent in some scenes, there are no distracting artifacts.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is stunning in its spatial dimension, particularly the Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete version, and dynamic contrasts. Bass energy is extremely deep and powerful at sustained durations proving to be a torture exercise for even the most capable below 25Hz systems. While dialogue often sounds ADR-manufactured, all the other elements work extremely well, especially the aggressive localization and panning of discrete sound effects in which the filmmakers achieve remarkable soundfield realism, topping their impressive Stargate sonic vision.
