WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
CutThroat Island is an adventurous swashbuckling saga of pirates, buried treasure, bravery and betrayal. Davis stars as pirate leader Morgan Adams who leads her fearless crew across the Caribbean seeking her father’s hidden treasure. At the same time, they are pursued by her evil uncle (Langella), as well as the nasty British authorities. She engages the help of William Shaw (Modine), a dashing slave who is as quick with his wit as he is with his sword.

LaserDisc Picture:
Shot anamorphicly, the 2.32:1 THX®-quality assured picture is mediocre with vivid colors that are inconsistently rendered and lighting that is problematic, but otherwise a solid picture.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The “thrill ride” loud 5.1 discrete soundtrack is dramatically more spatial, especially the music score, and dynamic with the Dolby Surround version almost mono in comparison. Dialogue is poorly ADR produced and individual sound elements are not well integrated.
