WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The American President is a delightful comedy about widower-president Andrew Shepherd (Douglas), who, quite unexpectedly falls in love with Sydney Ellen Wade (Bening), an environmental lobbyist. Complicating his desire for personal privacy and his efforts to maintain a relationship are issues President Shepherd must confront—approval ratings, an inquiring press and an aggressive political opponent (Richard Dreyfuss). Will the media, the public and hisloyal advisors allow him to be President of the United States and have a girlfriend at the same time?

LaserDisc Picture:
Picture quality is exemplary, the aspect ratio is 2.35:1 and there is no noise or artifacts for a perfectly solid presentation.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a lush orchestra score that provides subtle surround envelopment but otherwise a conventional mix that is predominately mono focused.
