WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
This stand-up-and-cheer film takes place in 1951 Hickory, Indiana, a place that takes its basketball as seriously as its religion. Norman Dale (Hackman), a once hailed, now-failed star college basketball coach, takes up the unenviable task of coaching Hickory High’s team. Dale has not been on the court in twelve years and has to fight off the town’s ridicule because of his age and coaching methods, but believes in the six players he started out with. And on the night of the vote to drop or keep him, the small team becomes one of the strongest and most amazing in the heartland.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture is natural in appearance with vivid colors, slightly orange fleshtones, and deep balcks. Shadow delineation is nicely rendered. Slight noise is apparent throughout, but there are no distracting artifacts.
