WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Big Night is the touching story of Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and Secondo Pilaggi (Stanley Tucci), Italian immigrants who settle in New Jersey to open a restaurant with hopes of striking it rich. On the brink of failure, the brothers decide to host a “big night” with famed Italian-American musician Luis Prima performing at their restaurant. Together, they pool all their talent, energy and money and learn a lot about themselves, each other and the different definitions of life, love and success. Isabella Rosselini and Minnie Driver costar in this critically acclaimed film.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits generally natural color fidelity and fleshtones with rich and warm colors and deep solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed with excellent shadow detail. Slight noise and minor artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack features a first rate jazz score that is beautifully recorded with a wide soundstage, superb imaging and depth. Dialogue is naturally rendered with excellent spatial integration. Sound effects are presented in stereo with effective subtle surround envelopment. This is a very enjoyable soundtrack and is sure to please.
