WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Heavyweights is a Walt Disney production from the creator of The Mighty Ducks. The story is about a group of hungry kids, who upon arrival at their beloved summer camp, learn that it is under new management with a fanatical fitness trainer who’s determined to make them shape up. The new owner wants to keep the kids huffing and puffing so that he can document on video the weight-reducing results of his program to get parents to send their “heavyweights” to his camp. The hilarity of the situation is in the determination of the kids to hang tough in their ways. The young boys team up and strike up a plan of their own to take back their wooded sanctuary in this comedy of enormous proportions.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture exhibits inconsistent color fidelity and inconsistent fleshtones. Images are fairly detailed and sharp, and blacks are deep and solid. The transfer is overall free of noise, grain and artifacts except for noise in the darker scenes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The manufactured-effect sound has unnatural ADR dialogue and surround envelopment limited to the music score.
