WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Jewel Of The Nile is the sequel to the film Romancing The Stone, and it takes up where its predecessor left off. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner return as Jack Colton, the swashbuckling wanderer, and Joan Wilder the bestselling romance writer. This time their non-stop adventures take place in Northern Africa where they are joined by Danny DeVito as the devious, backstabbing thief Ralph. This is a very entertaining film with never a dull moment made more enjoyable by the action comedy and exotic settings.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 2.35:1 aspect ratio is true to the un-credited (other than Arriflex camera tag) Arri-Scope frame. The picture is sharp and de-tailed with accurate fleshtones and natural but vivid color. Shadow detail is excellent in the night scenes and blacks are deep and solid without grain or noise, but for some minor artifacts, for an overall pleasing presentation.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack conveys its mono presence with limited surround envelopment. Conventional movie stereo at work with the music providing a subtle surround effect. Fidelity is a touch harsh and wanting.
