WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Falcon & The Snowman, based on actual events in the lives of Christopher Boyce and Andrew Daulton Lee, the subject of the book by Robert Lindsey, was one of the most critically-acclaimed films of the 1980’s. It is a portrait of two unlikely friends who become traitors to their country but not to each other. Timothy Hutton plays a young man who is disillusioned because he can not seem to make a difference in a world that appears apathetic and unjust. Sean Penn is his drug-dealing friend who seeks only personal profit from this same imperfect world. Together they conspire to sell America’s secrets to the KGB.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture is very sharp and de-tailed with a natural rendering and excellent color fidelity. Colors are vivid with natural fleshtones, deep solid blacks, and good shadow detail. Some minor artifacts but overall a solid, grain- and noise-free transfer.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is a conventional stereo movie mix which consists of mono elements sweetened with a stereo music score that provides a subtle surround ambience. In this case the music score is excellent.
