WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Director Stephen Gyllenhaal’s screen adaptation of Graham Swift’s novel Waterland stars Academy Award® winner Jeremy Irons (Reversal Of Fortune). Irons portrays a frustrated teacher who finds his cynical students somewhat less than thrilled by the traditional presentations of lessons in world history. When he begins to tell them a series of very personal stories, they join him on a journey into his past that changes their perspectives and shows them the importance of history in understanding the present. This is a very powerful and provocative motion picture.

LaserDisc Picture:
The quality of the 2.35:1 widescreen picture is excellent, with natural well balanced color and consistency from scene to scene. An occasional case of the “video wiggles” mars what would otherwise be visually near perfect.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby Surround® soundtrack on this transfer is outstanding, with powerful bass, an enveloping surround field and great integration of the excellent musical score.
