    This cinematic documentary gives viewers the chance to experience the earth from 200 miles above, a spectacle only a privileged few have observed. From the unique viewpoint in space, you can see familiar landforms and how nature's forces affect our world.     The VC-1-encoded 1.78:1 Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD show solid blacks and good shadow delineation, and the re-framing from the original IMAX®-format composition is satisfying. Colors are slightly desaturated, with a color depth that isn't as eye-popping as other high-definition releases have shown. This results in greens and blues that can look slightly pasty. Details are slightly soft, with fine details not easy to see. Edge enhancement is not a problem, but minor source element artifacts can be noticed at times. (Danny Richelieu)

    The Dolby® Digital and lossless Dolby TrueHD™ encodings on both discs feature an interesting mix that can be quite enveloping, with well-placed phantom images in the front and surround stages. Music is mixed fairly well, with good expansion into the surrounds. Deep bass is delivered through each of the channels. The TrueHD encoding provides improved fidelity, making the Dolby Digital encoding sound somewhat harsh and distorted. Dynamic range is also improved, which also helps provide more depth and expansiveness in the soundfield. (Danny Richelieu)
