Free Birds is the animated adventure about two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks who travel back in time in order to keep their species of the Thanksgiving menu. (Gary Reber)

Special features include five featurettes: Birds Flipping History (HD 1:27), Animating Free Birds: The Main Course (HD 04:36), Winging It: Animators In Action (HD 04:32), Talking Turkey With Composer Dominic Lewis (HD 06:23), and Shake A Tail Feather (HD 0:24); the theatrical trailer; and an UltraViolet digital copy.

The 1080p 1.85:1 AVC picture was originally created in 3D, but despite its 3D theatrical exhibition, Fox has limited the release to 2D. The picture quality is stunning, with a crisp and finely defined animated rendering. Colors are vibrant, with strong hues that are fully saturated and pop off the screen. Resolution is excellent, with fine detail exhibited throughout. Contrast is superb, with deep, solid blacks and revealing shadow delineation. This is a wonderfully colorful and resolved picture that is reference quality. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is lively throughout, with an energized orchestral music score that drives the fast-paced storytelling. Atmospherics and sound effects are aggressively energized during the action sequences, especially when the time machine revs up to take the turkeys back to Pilgrim times. Surround activity is engaging throughout, especially with respect to the music and the effects. Dialogue is always intelligible and reasonably effective spatially. Fidelity is excellent throughout, for an impressive holosonic® experience. (Gary Reber)
