Set in Los Angeles in the slight future, Her follows Theodore (Phoenix), a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive and unique entity in its own right. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha," a bright, female voice (Johansson) who is insightful, sensitive, and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. (Gary Reber)

Special features include three featurettes: The Untitled Rick Howard Project (HD 24:19), How Do You Share Your Life With Somebody? (HD 03:56), and Her: Love In The Modern Age (HD 15:10); upfront previews; and an UltraViolet digital copy.

The 1.85:1 1080p AVC picture, which was photographed digitally with the Arri Alexa camera system, is gorgeous with a warm, perfectly natural appearance. The color palette is richly hued with natural fleshtones throughout. Contrast is nicely balanced with deep, solid blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Resolution is finely detailed with a natural vividness that is striking in its visual perfection. Close-ups reveal the finest pours in facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. This is a beautiful visual experience that is reference quality. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused throughout, with a natural, realistic presence, with excellent spatial integration. Monaurally focused, the softly quiet music score with a prominent piano lead provides a stereo presence with subtle surround envelopment. Low-frequency energy is limited, but natural sounding. Atmospherics and sound effects are entirely frontal and narrow sonically. This is a quiet, dialogue sonic experience that sounds perfectly natural, with excellent fidelity throughout. (Gary Reber)
