    "Leprechaun: Origins" follows two unsuspecting young couples as they backpack through the lush Irish countryside and discover a town's chilling secret. Ben (Dunbar), Sophie (Bennett), David (Fletcher), and Jeni (Roxburgh) quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be when the town's residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland's most famous legends is a terrifying reality. (Gary Reber)

    Special features include the featurettes "Leprechaun: An Icon Reborn" (HD 06:01) and "Leprechaun: Behind The Blood" (HD 04:50), upfront previews, and an UltraViolet digital copy.

    The 1080p AVC picture exhibits hauntingly creepy night scenes that require a darkened, preferably black home theatre setting to optimize the shadow delineation. Except for opening daylight scenes in the lush Irish countryside, the action occurs in the dark. Colors are thus muted within the dim light, with the occasional highlight that provides just enough contrast to discern the imaging and resolution. Resolution is decent throughout, and even though the scenes are dim, detail manages to be perceived. The production design and cinematography is effective in this regard. Overall, this is an extremely dark visual experience that requires a display capable of excellent black-level reproduction. (Gary Reber)

    The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is effectively low-frequency intense, with powerful and deep sub-25 Hz .1 LFE energy that immersives the soundfield and enhances the horrific visual experience. Along with the pervasive bass energy is a equally haunting and immersive music score that is spread wide and deep across the soundfield, extending aggressively into the surrounds. Atmospherics and sound effect are effectively executed to define a soundscape of terrifying dimension. Throughout dialogue manages to sound intelligible with good spatial delineation. This is a very effective sonic experience that is immersively engaging. (Gary Reber)
