"13," a remake of the 2005 "13 Tzameti," is a chilling and unnerving exploration of the relationship between power and money. In the film, Vince Ferro (Riley) is a man in desperate circumstances. While on a quick fix-it job, he steals an envelope containing instructions for a mysterious job that promises a potential fortune. He assumes a false identity and follow the instructions, only to find himself a numbered participant in an underworld Russian roulette competition, where gamblers place bets on who'll survive when the trigger is pulled. The stakes are high, but the pay out is more than he can resist. Many are competing for the first time, and a precious few have even returned to play again, but are his odds any better than other players in this most deadly game? What will it take to be the last man standing? (Gary Reber)

The 1080p AVC picture is darkly contrasted with poorly resolved, crushed blacks and shadow delineation. As well, the color palette is densely hued with unnaturally hued tones. Resolution is "plugged," which diminishes detail throughout the picture. Such a "heavy" density is complementary to the dark, deadly game portrayed in the film. But overall, the image quality is undistinguished. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby® TrueHD 5.1-channel soundtrack sounds compressed and lacking in fidelity, with an overall dull quality. Even dialogue sounds EQ'd with subdued presence. ADR dialogue lacks natural integration spatially throughout. Surround envelopment is generally subtle, except during the intense shooting sequences and during music score segments. Deep bass is prominent in the .1 LFE channel. Overall, the soundtrack misses the mark on fidelity, for an overall undistinguished sonic experience. (Gary Reber)
