In "Rental Family," Academy Award®–winning Brendan Fraser stars as a has-been American actor searching for purpose and belonging in a society where he feels increasingly adrift. An unexpected acting call leads him to a “rental family” agency, where he is hired to play stand-in roles for strangers seeking connection. As performance begins to blur with reality, the immersive role-playing awakens his humanity and compassion, drawing him deeply into his clients’ lives and pushing him off-script whenever his empathetic heart takes over. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurette "Rental Family Revealed" (HD 10:34), nine deleted/extended scenes (HD 17:00) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 2.00:1 1080p picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa Mini LF camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The setting in Japan is extremely urbanized with seemingly masses of people living their lives. The setting is perfectly realistic. The color palette is nicely saturate with warm and rich hues that exhibit naturalness throughout, Flesh tones are perfectly natural. Contrast is excellent. Blacks are generally deep. Shadows are revealing. White levels appear naturally illuminated. The imagery a beautifully sharp and well detailed throughoutResolution is revealing of facial features such as lines and beard stubble, as well as hair. Clothing fabrics are detailed, Structural and set aspects and objects exhibit texture and detail. This is a beautiful picture that really captures the Japanese culture and settings. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is enveloping with an active orchestral score that occupies a wide and deep soundstage with aggressive extension to the surrounds. Atmospherics sound perfectly realistic. Foley sound effects are precise and enhance realism. Sound effects are limited but enhance the realism. Surround energy capturers atmospherics of urban environments and the music. Dialogue is both in Japanese (with subtitles) and English, with generally good spatial integration. This is a wonderfully dramatic holosonic® soundtrack experience that provide an emotional charge. (Gary Reber)
