In "Lone Samurai," a 13th century samurai finds himself shipwrecked on an island he believes to be deserted. As he contemplates his existence, it seems like a dignified death at his own hands might be his best solution. However, when he is captured by the murderous cannibal tribe that calls this island home, his survival instinct kicks in, in the existential action-thriller.. Gary Reber)

Lone Samuari also is available in black-and-white HD.

The 2.00:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa35 camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The setting is a beautiful isolated island. The picture is stylized throughout. Part One: The Calm is the peaceful segment set along the beautiful beach and coastline forests that appear spectacular with a wonderful color palette. Part Two: The Kamikaze is the confrontation with the murderous cannibal tribe that occupies the island. In this segment the imagery is dark and gloomy and set within some sort of a cave and on a beach. Here the color palette is dark with an emphasis on blacks and dark shadowy grays lit by torch fires and the natural light of the coast line beach. HDR contrast is excellent. Black are deep and solid. Shadows are dark. White levels illuminate from bright daylight coastlines to fire torches, Resolution reveals textural attributes of the coastline and forest. Facial and body features are revealing of fine detail. This is a strong visual experience that is compelling. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is very dynamic sounding with an aggressive and loud synthesizer/orchestra/choral score that fully envelops the sound field with a wide and deep soundstage and aggressive extension to the surrounds. The score is bold sounding with powerful drum sounds. Atmospherics are realistic throughout. Sound effects are numerous and varied, and powerful. Both the music and sound effects are enhanced with intense bass, especially in the .1 LFE channel. Surround energy is power and directional. Dialogue is limited to ADR production with a forward presence.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension of the music to the height layer, a few atmospherics and a few sound effects. The music carries the weight of the height layer providing enhanced dimensionality

This is a powerfully haunting holosonic® spherical soundtrack that aggressively excites all the channels for a powerful listening experience. (Gary Reber)
