The 2.35:1 HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm Eastern film in anamorphic Panavision® using the Arriflex 35 IIC camera system and sourced from a 4K restoration of the original camera negative by Arrow Video. The original 35mm camera negative was scanned at 4K / 16 bit resolution at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging. The film was restored in 4K resolution and color graded at Duplitech. Film grain appears generally chunky. The setting is an amusement part consisting of three theme areas. Most of the focus is on the Western themed area with a Western town setting of the 1800s. The other two worlds are the Romanworld and the Medievalworld. There is also the background operational area comprised of computerization and repair of the humanoids and snakes that populate the scenes. Film grain is visible but generally not objectionable. The color palette exhibits saturated hues that appear warm in tone. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels are deep. Shadows appear natural. White levels are well illuminated. Resolution is generally quite good with the imagery sharp and clear. Facial features exhibit lines, mustaches, beards and hair. Clothing is realistic. Sets are well appointed, This is a satisfying visual experience with generally good image quality. (Gary Reber)
The original 4-track stereo soundtrack rendered in DTS-HD Master Audio surround and the repurposed DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack are primarily soundstage focused in monaural, except for the orchestra score, which is spread wide and forward with excellent stereophonic imaging and generally good fidelity. The music and echoed footsteps in the approach to the underground control center are the extent of surround envelopment. Atmospherics sound realistic. Sound effects sound realistic such as gunfire. Foley sound effects enhance realism, though at times exaggerated.. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with generally decent spatial integration. This is a dated soundtrack with limited holosonic® surround envelopment. (Gary Reber)
