The 2.39:1/1.85:1 /1.33:11080p picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally in anamorphic /i Scope using the RED V-Raptor camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The picture starts our documenting the disappearance of Riley in alternating 1.85:1 and 1.33:1 with the imagery damaged and distorted. Thereafter, the picture is framed in 2.39:1. The picture is rather dark overall. Color fidelity appears natural. Blood reds standout. Flesh tones are realistic. Contrast is generally good. Black levels never really exhibit deep blackness, but instead are shadowy with grayish shadings. At times, resolution is revealing of fine detail though the darkness camouflages real fine detail. However, during full illuminated segments, detail is revealing. Further, various artifacts plague the image quality. This is a hauntingly dark visual experience that is scary. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with powerful bursts of deep, sub-25 Hz bass delivered by the .1 LFE channel. These are sudden and intense. Atmospherics sound realistic. Sound effects incite intense emotional responses. The orchestral score is creepy. The music occupies a wide soundstage that extensions aggressively to the surrounds for sound field envelopment. The surrounds are nicely active throughout and at times are intense. Dimensional imaging is excellent. Dialogue is intelligible with generally good spatial integration. This is a spooky, mysterious and often horrific holosonic® soundtrack that delivers emotional excitement. (Gary Reber)
