In "Snakes On a Plane," an FBI agent takes on a plane full of deadly venomous snakes, deliberately released to kill a witness being flown from Honolulu to Los Angeles to testify against a mob boss.

The 2.39:1 HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm Kodak Vision2 film in Super 35 using the Arriflex 235 camera system and sourced from a 4K restoration of the original camera negative by Arrow Video and approved by Director David Ellis. Trapped on a plane, the set production design exhibits realism throughout. Color fidelity is excellent, Color saturation is realistic with natural hues exhibited throughout. Blues and reds are strongly hued. Flesh tones appear perfectly natural. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels are deep and solid. Shadows reveal realistic shading. Lighting effects are nicely illuminated with spot lights used effectively in the production design. Scenes outside the plane, whether in Hawaii or on the streets and buildings in Los Angeles, or in the lightning-filled dark stormy skies all appear perfectly realistic. Resolution is excellent. Facial features reveal fine detail such as skin pores, lines, hair, beard stubble and hair. Costumes reveal fabric detail. The interiors of the plane are realistic and exhibit texture. The snakes appear realistic and scary as do the horrific snake attacks, The imagery is very freighting and intense. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is full of sound effects and the sounds of mayhem and panic. The snake hisses are eerie. The orchestra score is active throughout and sounds dynamic. The music extends wide and deep across the soundstage with an aggressive extension to the surrounds. Bass support provides a solid foundation with an active .1 LFE presence. Dialogue in intelligible throughout with excellent spatial integration, no doubt do the close quarters of the plane's set. This is an intense and emotionally charged holosonic® soundtrack that delivers excitement and horrific sonics. (Gary Reber)
