The modern-day Western Americana follows a gallery of dynamic characters clash over the possession of a rare Native American artifact in this wildly entertaining modern-day western. After the artifact falls onto the black market, a shy waitress with big dreams (Sydney Sweeney) teams up with a lovelorn military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) to gain possession of it, putting them in the crosshairs of a ruthless criminal (Eric Dane) working on behalf of a Western antiquities dealer (Simon Rex). Bloodshed ensues when others join the battle, including the leader of an Indigenous group (Zahn McClarnon) and a desperate woman fleeing her mysterious past (Halsey). (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary with Writer-Director Tony Tost, the featurette "A Western Fairy Tale: The Making of Americana" (HD 10:41) and theatrical trailer.

The 2.39:1 1080p picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The setting is Dakota's Indian territory and Wyoming. The picture exhibits naturalness throughout, with a nicely saturated color palette. The colors reflect a desert landscape of dried grasses, green shrubs and low quality structures. Hues appear natural. Flesh tones are naturally realistic. Contrast is good. Black levels appear natural, Shadow are revealing. White levels are realistically illuminated. Resolution is on the soft side with closeups more revealing. This is a natural, realistic picture depicting the modern west and colorful inhabitants. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused with realistic atmospherics and natural sound effects, such as rifle and pistol fire, and vehicle road noise. The music features a western flavor with country songs and orchestrations. Bass support is provided for the powerful gunfire. The music occupies wide and deep and extends aggressively to the surrounds. Dialogue is intelligible with ADR, and generally sounds well integrated spatially.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension of the music to the height layer as well as nuanced dialogue, atmospherics and the occasional sound effect. This is a generally effective height layer treatment that enhances sound field dimensionality.

This is a well-crafted holosonic® soundtrack that satisfying throughout. (Gary Reber)
