The 2.35:1 HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm Eastman film in anamorphic Panavision® using the Panavision Panaflex Gold and Panavision Panaflex-X camera systems and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate of the 4K restoration from the original 35 mm camera negative by Arrow Films. The original 35 mm camera negative was scanned in 4K/16 bit at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging. Film grain exhibits a smooth texture that is very filmic but never objectionable. The setting is a remote moon of the planet Jupiter where there is a titanium ore mining operation with thousands of workers overseen by a Marshal and his administrative staff. The picture is sharp and clear throughout. The facility is fraught with intricate construction attributes. The sets are visibly complex and realistic. Colors appear natural. The color palette exhibits saturated hues that are warm and rich. The Marshall and staff uniforms are vividly deep blue, which contrast with the otherwise grayish hues of the facility. In one scene, red blood contrasts against white spacesuits. Flesh tones are natural and realistic. HDR contrast is excellent, White levels are brilliant. Blacks appear deep and realistic. Shadows reveal excellent depth and variants of grays to blacks. Resolution also is excellent with fine detail revealed in facial features as in skin pores, lines, beards and hair. Clothing reveals textures. Facility interiors are detailed as well as objects. This is a very cinematic presentation with excellent cinematography. (Gary Reber).

The repurposed DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic with sound field dimensionality, particularly with respect to the excellent imaging exhibited across the soundstage. The film's 70 mm exhibition and the soundtrack accompanying that version formed the basis for the surround track. Atmospherics sound realistic with ambient environmental effects spread aggressively throughout the sound field. Sound effects are often powerful with excellent transients delivered by numerous machines. Deep bass supports the intense action sequences with intermittent bursts of forceful .1 LFE during some of the spaceship sequences such as the shuttle landing. Jerry Goldsmith orchestra score is terrific with excellent stereophonic imaging and extension to the surrounds. Surround envelopment is aggressive and enhances the dimensionality of the sound field, Fidelity throughout is excellent. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with good spatial integration. This is an exciting and suspenseful holosonic® soundtrack with excellent dimension and imaging. (Gary Reber).
