007: The Sean Connery James Bond 6-Film Collection is comprised of the following titles in 4K Ultra HD
DR. NO
Sean Connery made his explosive film debut as James Bond—Agent 007 in Dr. No, the first of Ian Fleming's novels adapted to the screen. In the Caribbean, mysterious energy waves are interfering with U.S. missile launches, and it is Bond's mission to solve the crisis. With the help of CIA Agent Felix Leiter (Jack Lord) and the beautiful Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress), Bond begins to unravel the truth. He must square off in Jamaica against the ruthless Dr. No (Joesph Wiseman), a rogue's gallery of vengeful SPECTRE agents, assassins, and femmes fatales, and their evil plans for world domination. Based on the book by Ian Fleming.
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
Sean Connery is once again Agent 007 in From Russia With Love. 007 finds himself pitted against the corrupt SPECTRE organization in a rousing chase to stop a sinister plan to steal a decoder that will access Russian state secrets and irrevocably alter the world order. To seize the prized device, 007 must confront some of the most remarkable villains yet, including voluptuous Rosa Klebb Lotte Lenya), a Soviet double agent with lethal high heels, and Red Grant (Robert Shaw), a sadistic Colonel. Based on the book by Ian Fleming
GOLDFINGER
Sean Connery is Agent 007 in the third screen adaption of Ian Fleming's stories. His mission is to stop the evil tycoon Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe) from executing an ingenious plot to take over the gold depository at Fort Knox and obliterate the world economy. Armed with his specially equipped Aston Martin DB5 (an accessory package that includes built-in machine guns, a smoke screen, and an ejector seat), Bond battles it out with some pretty outrageous adversaries.
THUNDERBALL
Thunderball finds Bond (Connery) diving to the bottom of the sea to track down a villainous criminal who's threatening to plunge the world into a nuclear holocaust. Legal squabbling over the rights to the story ultimately led to the making of Never Say Never Again, technically a remake of this 1965 classic. Based on the book by Ian Fleming.
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
A disaster in space pushes humankind toward World War III, and only James Bond can prevent it. Sean Connery returns as Agent 007, who travels to Japan to stop the evil SPECTRE organization and its diabolical leader, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Donald Pleasence), from instigating global warfare from his massive headquarters in an inactive volcano, and prevent a war between Russia and the United States.
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
A fortune in stolen diamonds thrusts James Bond into action in Las Vegas. Sean Connery returns as Agent 007 and teams up with the beautiful Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) to prevent his nemesis Blofeld (Charles Gray) from smuggling diamonds in an evil plot to use the diamonds in a deadly laser satellite.
The 1.75:1 and 2.35 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 pictures, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm film and sourced from new 4K scans of the original camera negatives. the films aspect ratios run the gamut from 1.75:1 ("Dr. No," "From Russia With Love," and "Goldfinger") to 2.35:1 ("Thunderball", "You Only Live Twice" and "Diamonds Are Forever"). Some films and scenes exhibit more visible grain than others, but none are distracting. The color palette on each film is vivid with excellent textural depth. HDR contrast is good to excellent. Resolution on all six films is uniformly impressive to varying degrees, but certainly an improvement compared to the previous Blu-ray editions. Overall, these 4K discs outperform widely their Blu-ray counterparts and represent the best the films have ever looked on home video. (Gary Reber)
There are two different primary lossless options for all six films: the first is a new repurposed Dolby Atmos remix built from scratch, and the second is the original theatrical mono audio that is presented in a split-channel DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 format. As with picture quality, the soundtracks are improved in terms of dimensionality, and an impressive, though modest holosonic® treatment. (Gary Reber)
