During a human expedition to colonize space, "Mickey 17", a so-called "expendable" employee, is sent to explore an ice planet. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurettes "Behind the Lens: Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17" (HD 11:32), "Mickey 17: A World Reimagined" (HD 9:44) and "The Faces Of Niflheim" (HD 8.00) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 1.85:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa 65 and Arri Alexa Mini LF camera systems and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The settings are are ice planet densely covered in ice with snowfall a constant and the interior of a spaceship and its prison. Picture quality is excellent throughout. The ice appears icy and the interiors exhibit superb color fidelity with nicely saturated rich and warm hues, The spaceship interiors exhibit a greenish tone throughout, except for a dinner scene in Commander Marshall's quarters, which exhibit vivid colors. Scenes with the rampage of the ice planet creeper creatures are unusually desaturated. Flesh tones are perfectly natural. HDR contrast is superb. Black levels are deep and solid. Shadow delineation is revealing. White levels are naturally illuminated with at times brilliance. Resolution is superb with fine detail exhibited throughout. Facial and body features exhibit detail in skin pores, lines and hair. Clothing fabrics are revealing of textural detail, Structural and object textures are finely resolved. This i a a wonderfully crafted picture that is sharp and clear throughout and imaginative in its imagery. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with all elements energized. Atmospherics are rumbling bass withn the structure of the space ship. Sound effects are enhanced with deep bass and .1 LFE extension. There are intense scenes of mayhem supported with unique sonics. Foley sound effects are in perfect sync with picture. The orchestral and piano score are widely spread across and into the soundstage with aggressive extension to the surround. The string section, as well as the solo piano sound awesome. The dialogue, often ADR produced, is intelligible with good spatial integration. The narration is perfectly placed forward and centered. At times, dialogue is directional.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension to the height layer of the orchestral score, selected atmospherics, numerous sound effects and nuanced dialogue. While there are some blank segments with no height layer, the sound design adds significant enhancement to the sound field.

This is an unusual but well-crafted holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack that is captivating throughout. (Gary Reber)
