In "Plane, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island –– only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare’s help and will learn there’s more to Gaspare than meets the eye. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurettes "This Is Your Captain" (HD 14:18), "Plane Clothes" (HD 06:51) and "Brace For Turbulence" (HD 19:14), theatrical trailer and a digital copy.

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The picture is set in an island jungle. The imagery exhibits a slight raw character. The color palette is well saturated with warm hues and earthy green foliage and dirt runways. Flesh tones are generally natural hough at times pushed. HDR contrast is very good throughout with natural black levels, revealing shadows and natural illumination. Resolution is excellent with facial features that reveal skin pores, sweat, lines, hair and beards. Location settings and jungle environments are nicely detailed and realistic. The Trailblazer airplane and numerous objects and weapons are all nicely detailed, as well, as exhibiting texture. This is a visual experience that delivers lots of excitement. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dybnamic sounding with a diverse sound design. The home setting and the airlines control center provide sound realism. The interior of the airplane sound realistic. Atmospherics, especially in the jungle sound realistic. Sound effects can be intense, such as the lighting storm, the emergency landing decent and landing, and the violence associated with automatic gunfire in the island jungle. Deep bass supports the proceedings. The orchestral score occupies a wide soundstage that extends to the surrounds. The surrounds are active and strong. Dialogue is intelligible with generally good ADR production.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension of the orchestral score to the height layer as well as the occasional atmospheric and sound effect. While effective when engaged, far more could have been achieved to enhance spherical dimensionality.

This is an exciting holosonic® soundtrack with sounds of terror, whether associated with the emergency landing of the airplane or the rebel attacks. (Gary Reber)
