The 2.359:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed in Super 35 = on 35mm film stock and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format derived from the original camera negative approved by Director Renny Harlin. Film grain is non-existent. The picture appears wonderfully gorgeous. Color fidelity is accurately hued for a vibrantly colorful presentation that highlight bold hues and striking primaries. Colors are vivid and absolutely natural. The wider color gamut reveals nuanced hues and shadings. Flesh tones are perfectly accurate. HDR contrast is excellent with deep blacks, revealing shadows and brightly illuminated white levels. Resolution is excellent with fine detail revealed throughout. Facial features reveal skin pores, lines, makeup, hair and beards. Clothing fabrics are finely resolved. Settings, background and objects display realism and fine textures. This is a wonderfully vivid picture that will thrill fans of this classic. (Gary Reber)
The repurposed Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack delivers a soundscape that is dynamic sounding with excellent fidelity. Atmospherics sound realistic. Sound effects are abundant with exciting sounds that are realistic such as powerful gunfire, explosions and screeching vehicles and crashes, all with and smooth panning of movement. Foley sound effects are perfectly in sync with picture. Alan Silvestri's orchestral score is dynamic sounding with a wide and deep soundstage and aggressive surround envelopment with drectionalizatio. Deep bass can be impactful and support the sound effects and music. The .1 LFE channel delivers deep and powerful bass. Dialogue is intelligible with good spatial integration.
The Immersive Sound element is comprised of a powerful extension of the music, atmospherics and exciting aggressive sound effects . This is a very active height layer that effectively enhances spherical dimensionality. If only other productions would follow suit. Home theatre enthusiasts would love you.
