The 2.00:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Red V-Raptor camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. This is a very innovative and creative production design, which transitions through time within the same small geographical space in an outdoor space and home living room occupied by different couples and families. Cinematographer Don Burgess' color palette exhibits warm hues with excellent textural depth. Everything appears perfectly natural. Flesh tones are naturally hued. Contrast is excellent with natural black levels, excellent shadow delineation and realistic white level illumination. Resolution is excellent with revealing detail exhibits in characters and furnishings. This is a captivating production design treatment that is visually satisfying. Unfortunately, this was not released in 4K. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused, except for the volcanic intro and few flashback to early man. But most of the time the dialogue takes place throughout the stages of the occupants of the house and its living room. The dialogue is screen centered with excellent intelligibility and spatial integration. Dialogue within the living room is superbly produced. The dialogue is supported by a both lan Silvestri's orchestral and pop music segments with good soundfield envelopment, Deep bass is occasional, but not a significant element. Surround energy is generally subtle, such as in scenes based in nature and interior sequence. This is a holosonic® soundtrack that delivers a sense of intimate realism. (Gary Reber)
