In "Men Of War," a former Special Ops soldier ( Dolph Lundgren) leads a group of ex-Special Forces mercenaries, hired by a ruthless con man, to an island in the South China Sea: their mission is to carry out a secret operation to obtain the rights to the jade treasure that the island beholds. But once there, the agents defect to defend the islanders against the savage attackers. (Gary Reber)

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on Kodak 35 mm film stock in anamorphic Arriscope using the Arriflex 35 IIC camera system and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate. The picture has a light and smooth film grain, which is virtually invisible. The color palette exhibits naturally warm and rich saturated hues that reflect earthy tones. The island scene is surrounded by sea and is tropical in composition with browns and greens prominent hues. The native garments are dull in hue as are the clothing worn by the mercenaries, The island landscape is varied with mountainous features, waterfalls, sandy beaches and lush green foliage contrasted with blue skies. Flesh tones are natural. Contrast is generally good. Blacks appear natural, shadows are revealing and white levels are realistic. Resolution is softly focused in appearance. This is a very filmic presentation with engaging imagery. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack sounds satisfying with realistic atmospherics such water falls and the sound of surf waves and birds and insects. Sound effects such as gunfire and explosions are limited in dynamics and are without the benefit of powerful deep bass enhancement. The music is comprised of unique sounds and rhythmic orchestrations, which provide excellent support and imaging, The music's soundstage is wide and deep with aggressive surround extension, Surround envelopment is comprised of the music and sound effects. Dialogue is intelligible with generally good spatial integration. Overall, the soundtrack is pleasing but fidelity and dynamics are compressed. (Gary Reber)
