In "Ghosts Of Red Hill," after foiling a good ol’ fashioned stickup in the gold bust town of Red Ridge, Texas, the town sheriff jails a mysterious stranger suspected of ties to the gang of outlaws terrorizing residents. But as the sheriff draws closer to unraveling the bandits’ identities, ghosts of murdered townspeople begin appearing at his door, leaving him to question whether the spirits are warning him…or seeking vengeance for his own failure to protect them. The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 2K Digital Intermediate. The production design is a worn old Western town with dirt streets and weathered wood structures. Picture quality is satisfying. The color palette is saturated in earthy brownish hues, contrasted with a few white structures and numerous town objects exhibiting some color. Everything is realistic in natural appearance, including the long shots of the western desert. The blue sky nicely contrasts with the earthy hues. Flesh tones appear natural though at times the sherif's face can be reddish in complexion. Contrast is good with natural black levels, revealing shadows and realistic whites. Resolution exhibits generally good detail in facial features, lines, pores, hair and beards. The wood structures are nicely detailed as well as objects. Overall, this is a good looking Western that will please fans of the genre. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused with strong atmospherics and sound effects. The music is both orchestral/choral and synthesizer derived with a wide soundstage and aggressive surround presence. Bass extension sounds natural, including the orchestral drum segments during the sheriff's illusions. Atmospherics, such as strong winds and chirping birds sound natural. Sound effects such as gun fire also sound realistic. Foley sound effects are active and prominent sounding. Dialogue is intelligible but quite forward in ADR production. This is a decent holosonic® soundtrack with a typical Western sonic flair. (Gary Reber)
