The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa 65, Arri Alexa LF, Red Komodo and Sony CineAlta Venice 2 camera systems and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate. Picture quality is excellent with clear and sharp imagery throughout. This is a very stylized production design with both set and staging imagination and natural environments, such as the aerial shots and street scenes of New York City. The prison set appears perfectly realistic as well as the court room scenes. The color palette exhibits nicely saturated warm and rich hues, which at times pop, such as in the numerous set music productions. The wide color gamut is apparent in the nuanced color shadings and the color depth. Flesh tones are perfectly natural throughout. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels appear natural and deep. Shadows are well delineated. Whit levels are brilliant. Resolution is superb. Fine detail is exhibited in facial features and complexions, such as lines, pores, the Joker's makeup, hair and beards. Clothing fabrics are distinguishable. Structural elements and objects exhibit fine detail in textures. This is an outstanding picture that will be appreciated by audiences for its realism and stylish presentations. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with enveloping atmospherics and rousing sound effects, and an impressive orchestral score and song presentations. Soundfield envelopment is fantastic with strong diectionalized surrounds. The music occupies a wide and deep soundstage with aggressive surround envelopment. The sense of dimensionality is terrific. Bass sounds natural and at times extends deep, such as during a loud explosion and during other dramatic segments. Dialogue is primary and sounds perfectly natural and intelligible with a wonderful sense of dimensional spatial integration.
The Immersive Sound element is comprised of a strong extension of the music to the height layer, which is very prominent, as well as lower level, but at times strong dialogue extension; atmospherics, such as courtroom audience reactions; and sound effects
This is an exceptional holsoni® spherical surround soundtrack that fully realizes the capabilities of the Dolby Atmos format with an incredible sense of Immersive Sound dimensionality. This will please home theatre enthusiasts who have systems that can fully deliver this impressive dimensionality. (Gary Reber)
