An adaptation of Peter Brown’s award-winning, #1 New York Times bestseller, "The Wild Robot" is an epic adventure staring Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o as Roz, a robot that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to the harsh surroundings. Gradually Roz starts building relationships with the animals on the island, including a clever fox voiced by Pedro Pascal, and becomes the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling named Brightbill voiced by Kit Connor. (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary with Writer/Director/Producer Chris Sanders, Producer Jeff Hermann, Editor Mary Blee, Production Designer Raymond Zibach, Head Of Story Heidi Jo Gilbert and Head Of Character Animation Jakob Hjort Jensen; 10 featurettes: "Commercial For Rozzum" (HD 04:08), "Moments From The Mic" (HD 02:28), "Meet The Cast" (HD 06:34), "The Overprotective Mother" (HD 03:13), "Assembly Required: Animating The Wild Robot" (HD 10:25), "Feeling Alive" (HD 09:08), "Wild Sounds" (HD 06:01), "How To Draw" (HD 22:06) and "Fly Your Own Brighbill" (HD 10:39) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was animated digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate.
This DreamWorks presentation is dazzlingly animated that exhibits a painterly style of animation. Chris Sanders has achieved a finished image that expresses a handcrafted artwork. Color fidelity is impressive with an impressive saturated and nuanced color gamut of brilliant hues that exhibit warmth and richness. Colors pop such as those present in the swarm of butterflies that Roz disturbs. HDR contrast is excellent. Blacks are deep while revealing detail, and white level can extend to brilliance. Resolution is revealing of enough detail to instill life in the imagery such as exhibited in fields of grass, in the incrementally increasing wear and tear that Ros endures, in environmental moments, and the technologically advanced center where Roz's distress call is received. There are many more such instances eye-catching detail. The Wild Robot is a beautiful visual experience that the entire family will cherish. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding. The opening scene delivers the sense of power and depth associated with the waves, as Roz first comes to life and navigates the alien environment, enhanced with powerful deep bass. The .1 LFE is active throughout such as providing bass strength to storms, crashes and falling trees. Ambient environmental sounds such as insects, birdsong, and flocks of birds are realistic sounding and enveloping within the immersive surround field. Sound effects such as the spectrum of forest life, and other environments are realistic sounding. The soundtrack as well is frequently very calm and quiet, expressing subtle sound cues. The orchestral score is dynamic with a wide and deep soundstage that extends to envelop the surrounds. Drectionality is excellent, with objects and voices panned realistically through the soundfield. Throughout ADR dialogue is intelligible.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised primarily of an extension of the music to the height layer with select atmospherics and numerous sound effects such as lightening, thunder and rain, and wind. This is a very effective application of the Dolby Atmos height capabilities, which enhances spherical dimensionality..

this is an impressive holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack that sounds dynamic, immersive and enveloping. Home theatre enthusiasts will be appreciative as well as the entire family. (Gary Reber)
