The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was animated digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate. As with Watchmen : Chapter I, the unique stylized picture features line and muted color fill animation that exhibits a warm color palette. The picture is on the darkish side and requires viewing in a dark environment. HDR contrast is excellent with dark shadows and solid blacks. White levels are generally subdued. Resolution is excellent with sharp and clear line delineations. This is a well-crafted animation feature that will please fans. (Gary Reber).
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack, as with Watchmen: Chapter I, is dynamic sounding. There is a low frequency foundation that envelops the soundfield. Surround energy is enveloping with various sound elements heard, including dialogue at low level, in the surround channels. At times the surrounds are directional. ADR dialogue is intelligible throughout. This is a satisfying holosonic® soundtrack that effectively complements the animation. (Gary Reber)
