"Never Let Go" is a psychological horror-thriller. As an evil takes over the world beyond their front doorstep, a mother (Halle Berry) and her twin sons find their only protection is their house and their deep-rooted family bond. Needing to stay connected at all times — even tethering themselves with ropes — they urge each other to never let go. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival. (Gary Reber)

The 2.11:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Alexa 65 and Alexa Mini LF camera systems and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The picture is stylized with a dark overall appearance and centered on a old wooden house surrounded by woods. The color palette is dominated by wood hues, drab clothing, and candle light during the bulk of the scenes. daylight provides a more natural appearance in the surrounding forest with natural earthy colors. Contrast is generally clamped down due to the prominent dark shadows. The daylight and spot candle light as well as a bright flashlight and fire provide natural illumination. Resolution is generally softly focused, especially within the house and during darkness. The characters can be well defined at times, such as their clothing and composition. This is a very haunting picture with compelling visual settings. To optimize the viewing experience, a dark room environment is absolutely required. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is Foley effects prominent as well as realistic atmospherics and commonly identified sound effects, which can be scarily dynamic sounding.. Sound effects such a thunder and rain sound realistic. The sounds of the forest are effectively creepy. The largely synthesizer score is haunting along with supplemental orchestral support. The music is spread wide and deep across the soundstage and extends to the surrounds with strong envelopment. Strong deep bass is also a prominent sound element, especially during the climax scenes. Dialogue is generally intelligible with good spatial integration, though wanting in ADR applications, and at times directional..
The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension of the music to the height layer as well as atmospherics, nuanced dialogue, thunder and pouring rain, a raging fire, panned helicopter flyover and other sound effects, This is a superb height layer presentation that is virtually constant throughout. The element effectively enhances soundfield dimensionality throughout. This is an excellent example of utilizing the height.layer.
This is a well-crafted holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack that delivers a mysteriously haunting and scary experience. (Gary Reber)
