"The Beast Within" takes place after a series of strange events leads her to question her family's isolated life on a fortified compound deep in the English wilds, 10-year-old Willow (Caoilinn Springall) follows her parents on one of their secret late night treks to the heart of the ancient forest. But upon witnessing her father undergo a terrible transformation, she too becomes ensnared by the dark ancestral secret they've tried to desperately to conceal. (Gary Reber)

The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 2K Digital Intermediate. The picture takes place in old stone buildings in the farmland countryside of an old English village. Light is filtered and rarely really bright, but color fidelity appears natural under the circumstances. Shadowy settings create a haunting feel. During closeups and light, hues brighten. The color palette is deep in earthy hues and grayish beiges reflected in the stone buildings. Flesh tones are naturally hued. Contrast is realistic with natural black levels, deep shadows, and filtered whites. Resolution is generally good with fine textures exhibited in clothing, buildings and forest tree bark and foliage. Closeups reveal fine detail in facial features, hair and beards. This is a compelling and filmic picture that builds to a horrific climax. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dimensional throughout with an amazing discrete soundfield directionality and inter-channel imaging. Discrete sounds of the forest and birds and animals are in every channel and nicely integrated into a seamless whole. The orchestral/choral/synthesizer score is creative and delivers an erie emotional feel. The music secures the soundfield with a wide and deep presence that envelops the soundstage and sounfield. Atmospherics are prominent throughout the soundfield and sound realistic throughout. Sound effects punch through in weight and bass enhancement. At times, dialogue is a bit challenging to decipher but otherwise sounds natural with decent spatial integration. This is a well-crafted holosonic® soundtrack that delivers an emotional impact.
