The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision/ HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally in anamorphic ALFA Scope and Master Scope using the Arri Alexa LF and Arri Alexa Mini camera systems and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The picture is gorgeously stylistic with an incredible production design. The color palette is beautifully presented with rich and warm saturated hues. Colors are vivid and beautiful. The wider color gamut further refines hue delineations. The production design is visually lush with stylized spot lighting to create an artistic palette throughout. Within the diverse settings and creative lighting design flesh tones are perfectly natural. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels are deep, shadow delineation is realistically revealing and white levels are brilliant, including specular highlights, yet natural. Every scene is amazingly visual and colorful. The imagery throughout is incredibly pristine and sharp. Clarity is awesome. Resolution is incredible with exquisite textures defining various locales with fine detail exhibited throughout. Facial features such as skin pores, lines, tattoos, beards and hair are finely revealing. Clothing is remarkably resolved in terms of fine tailoring and fabrics. Object texture is exceedingly detailed with realism achieved in the elaborate production design. This is a most remarkable and impressive visual experience that is exceptional in terms of reference picture quality. Picture quality is absolutely superb and incredibly vibrant and exhibits captivating stylization. Home theatre enthusiasts have a picture quality treasure to show off their display capabilities. This is reference Ultra HD at its finest. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is incredibly dynamic sounding and directionalized throughout, delivering a full-on, all-channel assault.. During action scenes the sound is punchy with powerful transient bass response. Deep bass can extend to sub-25 Hz frequencies. The orchestral music score is aggressively rhythmic and dynamic with excellent frequency spectrum. The music occupies a wide soundstage that extends to the surrounds. The music is pulsating and fills the soundfield with envelopment, as well as being of excellent recording quality. Atmospherics are realistic throughout. Sound effects deliver incredible punch and clarity such as the sonics associated with the hundreds of gun shots, car collisions snd up-close personal combat. Foley sound effects are elaborate and in perfect sync with picture. The soundfield delivers very aggressive surround energy with respect to atmospherics, sound effects and the music. Dialogue is intelligible throughout though there is lots of ADR, which though stylishly effective is wanting in spatial integration.

The Immersive Sound element is exciting and actively engages the height layer with an energized orchestral score that occupies the fontal channels. Atmospherics and sound effects are prominent in the height layer. The height layer is effectively used to enhance overall dimensional envelopment, thus enhancing the sense of realism. Numerous sound effects are heard such as flags waving in the desert camp, flying arrows, gun shots, hand combat, glass breaking, fan noise, water fall, sword clings, crowd screams, subway train, motor boat engine, car crashes, dog growls, and other sound effect. This is a very effective height layer, which effectively enhances dimensionality.

This is a superbly energetic and truly reference quality holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack that is a home theatre showcase in terms of fidelity and dynamics. The sonics will thrill fans of John Wick. (Gary Reber)
