In "IP Man: The Awakening," while visiting Hong Kong, young Master Ip intervenes in a kidnapping attempt, unintentionally igniting a turf war with a ruthless human trafficking ring. When the ruthless gang kidnaps one of Ip Man's close friends, he is forced to face the group's notoriously brutal boxing champion head on. (Gary Reber)

The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate format. The color palette is nicely saturated with natural hues that often pop. Flesh tones are natural in appearance. Textural resolution is excellent with fine detail exhibited throughout. Contrast is well balanced with revealing black levels and shadow delineation. This is a fine visual experience. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack offers both an English and Mandarin dialogue track. The English dialogue is poorly synced. Atmospherics are realistic and the Foley sound effects are effectively synced. The music score is often a background element, though at times, such as the big fight scene, displays pounding rhythmic drums with string accompaniment Surround energy is at times aggressive. Deep bass is powerful and extends to to sub-25 Hz frequencies. This is a decent holosonic® soundtrack. (Gary Reber)
