In "The Contractor," Special Forces Sergeant James Harper (Chris Pine) is involuntarily discharged from the Army and cut-off from his pension. In debt, out of options and desperate to provide for his family, Harper contracts with a private underground military force. When the very firs assignment goes awry, the elite soldier finds himself hunted and on the run, caught in a dangerous conspiracy and fighting to stay alive long enough to get home and uncover the true motives of those who betrayed him. The 2.39:1 1080p AVC 4K Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Picture quality is excellent with a natural presence throughout. Color fidelity is excellent with accurate hues that are well balanced in therms of realness. Nuanced hue shading are impressive, especially in the woods and water segments. Flesh tones are naturally rendered. HDR contrast is excellent with well defined blacks and shadows and natural white levels. Resolution reveals fine detail throughout with excellent clarity. Facial and body features are realistically detailed as well as clothing and object textures. This is a natural picture with thrilling imagery. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with impressively realistic and powerful gunfire. Atmospherics and sound effects are realistically supportive and often enhanced with transient bass response. Bass extension to sub-25 Hz supports the most intense segments. The orchestral score is dynamic with a wide and deep soundstage that extends to the four surround channels to create an enveloping soundfield. Front and surround channel directionality is discrete. Foley sound effects are precise. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with generally good spatial integration, This is a thrilling and dynamic soundtrack that delivers a compelling holosonic® surround soundfield. (Gary Reber(
