In "Those Who Wish Me Dead," Hannah (Angelina Jolie), a smoke jumper, is reeling from the loss of three young lives she failed to save from a fire. When she comes across a bloodied and traumatized 12-year-old boy, the two set out together to cross miles of thick forest. Braving deadly lightning storms that challenge even Hannah's well-honed survival skills, they're unaware of the true dangers they face as they're hunted by two killers, while a massive fiery blaze heads straight for them. The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa Mini and Red Gemini camera systems and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate format. Picture quality is excellent with nicely saturated hues of the forest and the engulfing fire blazes, the ground cover, the buildings, and the humans. The outdoor scenes were shot with natural light. Contrast is good throughout, with natural black levels, revealing shadows and bright highlights. Resolution is excellent with fine detail exhibited throughout in facial features, the forested environment, clothing and object texture. This is a well-produced visual experience that appears natural throughout. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack features a strong orchestral score that envelops the soundfield with a wide and deep soundstage and aggressive surround presence. Fire scenes are intense with deep, sub-25 Hz bass energy in the .1 LFE channel. Gunfire also is intense. The lightning strikes are incredibly intense with sharp transient bolts. Foley sound effects are realistic throughout. Dynamics are effective. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with generally good spatial integration. This is a nicely crafted holosonic® experience.
