John Wick is a revenge thriller with Keanu Reeves playing the ultimate hitman. When sadistic young thugs senselessly attack John Wick––a brilliantly lethal ex-assassin––they have no idea that they’ve just awakened the boogeyman. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, Wick embarks on a merciless rampage hunting down his adversaries with the skill and ruthlessness that made him an underworld legend.

Special features include commentary with Director Chad Stahelski and Producer David Leitch; six featurettes: Don’t F*#% With John Wick (HD 15:17), Calling In The Cavalry (HD 11:58), Destiny Of A Collective (HD 06:19), The Assassin’s Code (HD 05:18), Red Circle (HD 06:26), and NYC Noir (HD 06:00); the theatrical trailer; upfront previews; and an UltraViolet digital copy.

The 2.40:1 1080p AVC picture was photographed digitally with the Arri Alexa M camera system. The imagery is wonderfully cinematic, with a play on lighting and editing, which enhances this engaging visual experience. The color palette, when not stylized for dramatic effect, exhibits warm and rich hues. Fleshtones are perfectly rendered and are natural. Contrast is excellent with deep, solid blacks and revealing shadow delineation. The cinematography is nicely executed, and the scenes are composed stylistically. Resolution is excellent, with the finest detail exhibited throughout, especially during close-ups of facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. Visually thrilling, this is a reference-quality picture that should please.

The Dolby® Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1) soundtrack is well produced with powerful sound effects and defining atmospherics that are directionalized throughout the soundfield, delivering a full-on, all-channel assault. Gunfire and car sounds, as well as explosions, are prominent and sound forceful, as well as a thunder and lightening rain storm that is so elastic. Foley effects enhance the sense of realism. The music score is pulsating and fills the soundfield with envelopment and excellent recording quality. As mentioned, the sonic signature is pulsating and delivers an exciting holosonic® immersive experience with the added dimension of extra surround channels and height. Dialogue is naturally rendered and nicely integrated spatially. If you are a fan of intense action thrillers, this soundtrack delivers the adrenaline with strong extended sub-25 Hz .1 LFE effects. This is an exciting and intense sonic experience that perfectly enhances the lethal assassin theme.
