DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits a picture that looks dated. Still, colors can be nicely saturated, with accurate fleshtones and generally deep and undefined blacks. Images are nicely detailed, but many scenes appear soft and hazy. The source element is revealing of film grain, dirt, and artifacts. Pixelization and edge enhancement can be bothersome. Soundtrack:
The soundtracks both feature back surround encoding. Like other Anchor Bay remasters, this new sound mix is impressive in terms of dimensional engagement. The music nicely and convincingly encircles the listener, and atmospheric effects make for a welcome and pleasing sense of expansion. The back surround channel serves convincingly in imparting an enhanced sense of spaciousness behind the listener. Also quite notable is the presence of deep bass extension, incorporated as part of the soundtrack repurposing, and with some .1 LFE utilization. Of course the dated production of the original audio means that fidelity will be limited, particularly with voices. Still, this is a remarkable remastering effort that uses dimension to its advantage. The DTS-ES
