Story Synopsis:
Chester Gould's comic strip detective
DVD Picture:
Available for the first time in widescreen, the DVD, framed at 1.85:1, is anamorphically enhanced (despite the lack of such a notation on the jacket) and nicely captures the fantastic style of the movie. The colors are straight out of a comic book, with vibrant reds, bright blues and bold greens, and deep blacks. With all of the vibrant colors, fleshtones retain a natural appearance. Images are sharp and nicely detailed, sometimes with superb definition. Still, other scenes can appear somewhat smeared. There is some pixelization noticed, but little edge enhancement. The source element is revealing of a few flecks of dirt. (Suzanne Hodges)
