The DVD includes excellent supplementals, including feature-length commentary by director Gary Fleder as well as scene specific commentary by five of the stars. There is a menu titled Cinema Master Class, which includes a Brittany Murphy screen test, storyboard comparisons, an interview with producers Arnold Kopelson and Anne Kopelson, three behind-the-scenes featurettes, screening room dailies, a set tour with production designer Nelson Coates, a conversation with Fleder, a music score featurette, and pre-visualization of the trench sequence. DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits stylized images to give the picture an unconventional appearance. Director Gary Fleder wanted to stay away from a look that was too glossy or too clean. Blue overtones give the picture a cold, harsh feeling, while the psychiatric hospital often utilizes unsettling greens. Elsewhere in the movie, colors are nicely balanced, with rich hues. While images are quite sharp and nicely detailed, fine details smear slightly, and could possibly be a negative side effect of noise reduction. Edge enhancement is noticed on occasion.
