DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture is nicely rendered. Colors are rich and natural, with vibrant blue hues on stage, accurate fleshtones, and deep blacks. Images are sharp and nicely detailed. While the close-up shots give the viewer a you-are-there realism, shots of the stage and audience are smeared and undefined. Soundtrack:
The 5.1-channel mix should be a delight to experience, though classical music purists may object to the substantial surround presence (as well as the offbeat interpretations of Bach). Still, the sense of being enveloped within the midst of the live performances should be quite welcome, with a tasteful sense of spaciousness and immersion.
